AC vs DC — what's right for you
| AC wallbox | DC fast charger | |
|---|---|---|
| Power | 7.2 kW (single-phase) or 22 kW (3-phase) | 22, 30, 60 kW (or higher) |
| Charge time (40 kWh battery) | ~6 hrs single-phase / ~2 hrs 3-phase | ~30–45 min |
| Cost installed | PKR 250,000–450,000 | PKR 1,500,000+ |
| Best for | Home, office overnight parking | Commercial sites, fleet, highway |
| Connector standard | Type 2 (Mennekes) | CCS2 (Type 2 + DC pins) |
For 95% of home installs, a 7.2 kW Type 2 AC wallbox is the right answer — it fully charges most Pakistani-market EVs overnight, requires no special DISCO load upgrade up to that level, and costs a fraction of a DC unit.
Solar-linked EV charging
Pairing your EV charger with your existing or new solar system lets you charge directly from the panels — effectively driving on free electricity. We support two configurations:
- Smart load balancing — the charger reads available solar surplus from your inverter and ramps charge current up or down so you only consume excess solar (zero grid import while charging).
- Hybrid integration — for hybrid systems with battery, the charger draws from solar first, then battery, then grid. Settable priority.
Wallbox brands we install with solar integration: MyEnergi Zappi, Easee, Wallbox Pulsar, ABB Terra AC, and locally-stocked Goodwe HCA. For more on hybrid systems see hybrid solar.
Commercial and DC fast charging
For commercial sites — hotels, retail, malls, offices, housing societies — we install medium-speed AC arrays (multiple 22 kW 3-phase chargers on a single load-managed circuit) or dedicated DC fast units up to 60 kW.
Considerations specific to commercial installs:
- DISCO load upgrade — DC fast chargers and multi-bay AC arrays usually need a 3-phase upgrade and increased sanctioned load. We coordinate with the DISCO.
- Payment / access control — RFID, app-based, or open-access. We can integrate with payment gateways for paid commercial sites.
- OCPP compliance — for sites that want to integrate with national charging networks later, OCPP-compliant hardware is essential.
- Solar offset — sizing rooftop solar to match expected daytime charging load can dramatically improve commercial-site economics.
What an EV charger install includes
- Charger hardware (wallbox or DC unit) sourced from authorised channels.
- Dedicated 3 × 6 mm² (single-phase) or 5 × 10 mm² (3-phase) cable run from your distribution board to the charger location.
- RCD type-A or type-B circuit breaker as required by the charger.
- Earth pit if your existing earthing is inadequate (most Pakistani properties need this for EV chargers).
- Surge protection on the AC supply.
- Wall-mount or floor-pedestal installation.
- Configuration with your home Wi-Fi for app monitoring.
- Test charge and walkthrough at handover.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to install a home EV charger in Pakistan?
A 7.2 kW Type 2 AC wallbox installed in a Lahore home runs PKR 250,000 to 450,000 in 2026 depending on the charger brand, cable length from the meter, and whether earthing or a 3-phase upgrade is needed. Premium smart chargers with solar integration sit at the higher end.
Can I charge my EV directly from solar?
Yes — with a smart wallbox like MyEnergi Zappi, Easee, or Wallbox Pulsar, the charger reads your solar surplus from the inverter and only draws excess solar to charge the car. With a hybrid system you can also draw from battery. We program the priority during installation.
Will my house wiring need an upgrade?
For a 7.2 kW single-phase charger, most properties with a 30–60 kVA sanctioned load can accept it without DISCO action — we just add a dedicated breaker and cable run. For 22 kW 3-phase or DC fast charging, a load increase application to the DISCO is usually needed.
How long does it take to fully charge a BYD Atto 3 / MG ZS EV at home?
On a 7.2 kW Type 2 wallbox, a depleted Atto 3 (~50 kWh battery) charges to full in roughly 7 hours; an MG ZS EV (~44 kWh) in roughly 6 hours. Most owners plug in overnight and wake up to a full charge — daily commute use rarely needs a full top-up anyway.
Is the Type 2 connector standard in Pakistan?
Yes — Type 2 (Mennekes) for AC and CCS2 (Type 2 + DC pins) for DC fast charging are the de-facto Pakistani standards, matching every EV currently sold here including BYD, MG, Hyundai, and Audi. Tesla vehicles imported privately may need a Type 2 to NACS adaptor.
Can you install at a commercial site (hotel, mall, society)?
Yes. We install single-bay or multi-bay commercial setups with load management, RFID or app-based access, and optional payment integration. For OCPP-compliant national network compatibility, ask us about ABB, Wallbox, or Easee commercial models.
Does the charger work during loadshedding?
Only if your home has a hybrid solar system with sufficient battery. A grid-only home loses charging during outages. If running EV charging through outages matters, pair the wallbox with a hybrid solar system sized for the additional load.
